About Me

Yellowknife, NWT, Canada
Arriving in 1980, I’ve been an active volunteer, resident and concerned citizen in Yellowknife for over 29 years. Together with my wife Lynn, we’ve raised our two daughters, Shannon and Maggie, and are the very proud grandparents of Krystal, Danaka, Cole and Conner. We were also foster parents for over 20 years, and are very honoured to have helped raise 18 foster children, who have gone on to bless us with 9 foster grandchildren. I was first elected to Yellowknife City Council in 1991, and am now seeking re-election for a sixth term. I am currently a Senior Policy Analyst for the GNWT Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, and prior to that, I was the Executive Director of the NWT Chamber of Commerce, where I was awarded “Executive of the Year” by the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada. I have a very strong interest in the well-being and prosperity of this community and plan to utilize my experience in politics, business, local employment and volunteer commitments to help Yellowknifer’s, fulfill their aspirations for their community.

ISSUES:

.

"The more we do - the more we realize that needs to be done”

.

Reduce Our Cost of Living - Yellowknifers are not immune to the economic pressures facing all communities across Canada. During these times in particular, City Council must do everything we can to lower our cost of living and to live within our means; to help look for new opportunities that will bolster our economy and increase our efficiency.

Social Issues - For many years, residents of Yellowknife have listed social issues at the top of their list of concerns. Although not strictly a “City Government” issue, it is one that we can no longer stand idly by and hope that someone else will address. Through cooperative interagency discussions and coordination of solutions, we can address this problem facing residents and businesses alike.

Well Planned Controlled Growth It is imperative that our growth is well planned rather than forced. Our vast waterfront needs to be developed for public, private and protected uses, our downtown core needs to be revitalized to also include a greater residential component, and our residential neighbourhoods must strike the right balance of homes and green spaces.

Safer Streets and Pathways - This is not an objective - this is a right! Council must give greater priority to solutions that will address illegal and dangerous activities that especially face our downtown and secluded pathways. Look to greater cooperation between Municipal Enforcement, the RCMP and other agencies, enhanced lighting, greater public presence, and many, many more.

“I have consistently spoken up for Yellowknife in local, territorial and national venues. You know about my involvement with the community, about my experience in municipal politics, and my commitment as a long-time resident to the health and well-being of our community. Let us strive together to continue to build prosperity and a greater quality of life, in this wonderful city of Yellowknife.”
